Buying antiques & Vintage

Here are 5 of my favourite antique and vintage dealers which I love to explore for inspiration. Buying antique, vintage or pre-loved pieces is not only sustainable, but brings unique character and grounds the aesthetic of a room.

Litten Tree Antiques

Litten Tree Antiques is based in a charming former chapel in Berkshire. Owner Elizabeth sells decorative antiques, textiles and vintage pieces. I am particularly fond of the lovely upholstered one-off pieces which are created by true craftsmen. This gorgeous country house open chair is upholstered in the stunning Rosa Bernal Sevilla Piedre Verde fabric.

Soap and Salvation

Based in an old Salvation Army chapel in the vibrant town of of Rye in East Sussex, Soap and Salvation was established in 2021. It houses a wonderful curation of vintage and antique homewares, books, art and objects sourced from across the UK and Europe. This fabulous basketry twig mirror from France c1960 is a statement piece for a modern rustic interior.

tablo.london

A wonderful destination for colourful and unique vintage homeware, curated by Sophie Morrison. This Instagram account hosts fantastic glassware, candles, lighting and mirrors which makes sourcing and styling a home a dream. I am currently very tempted by this blue glass pedestal bowl.

Maud Vaughan Interiors

Sourcing both some fabulous mid-century pieces and designing their own range, Maud Vaughan has some wonderful pieces. It’s a perfect selection if you like an elegant and paired-back look which holds charm and character. I especially like the Wiggle Lamp featured here sculpted and forged from steel, handmade by artisan metalsmiths based in Yorkshire.

Retrouvius

Founded in the 1990s by Adam Hills and Maria Speake, Award winning Retrouvius is both a shop and a studio which brings to life reclaimed, salvaged and vintage materials. Maria, a global phenomenon, leads the interior design side of the practice which showcases how these materials can be used through her creative designs. The shop is absolutely worth a visit, as is browsing through their ‘Guide to Reuse’ on their website. I love their unusual textiles including this fun flatweave rug depicting a colourful camping scene.
